Key Takeaways

How They Did It Success Panel

February 24, 20245 min read

"This program saved my life. Now I have absolute freedom with the tools in my toolbox so when I slip up, I know how to get back up. And I left with a forever family and network to lean on." Sherri N.

Last year, I was asked to be a panelist on a success panel of coaches who created an online program and I was not only honored by the privilege of being asked, but the idea that I was a “success” who had something to offer others who were considering investing in the same coaching program that helped me build mine. (yes, coaches need coaches too!)

I was able to witness the fear and trepidation of the people who showed up for that event. They all had similar feelings, “what if it doesn’t work for me”, “How long will it take until I make back my investment” and questions around time and energy commitments. I was honest and real with them and I was honored to be of service to others on the fence of a big decision…I was once there too.

So, naturally I felt that a success panel of graduates of The Bariatric Success Method coaching program would be of value to others in similar situations as they once were… Fearing the weight regain, having no clue what to do about it, feeling miserable in their body, and sick and tired of getting generic advice when they sought help for their weight management. “Eat less, exercise more”.

The truth is that Dr. Marema & I have found a solution to long term weight management in the obese person who has had bariatric surgery….30+ people have gone through it. It’s been validated.

But that doesn’t mean that people who are suffering with weight gain, increased health concerns and all the emotional baggage that comes with weight gain after WLS will feel worthy of investing in themselves in finding a solution. Or that they aren’t full of fear that they won’t stick to it, and it will have been a waste. Or that they’ll be the ONE person that it won’t work for because they have xyz condition.

Part of my job as a coach is to hold space for those fears AND push you towards taking meaningful action. Because staying stagnant makes it worse. Staying stuck keeps you stuck. Feeling stuck sucks!

So, in efforts to show you what it’s like to find a solution, I put together a small success panel of 3 recent graduates from TBSM and we talked for 30 minutes.

Here are some of the highlights of what Dr Marema, Myself, Catherine S, Sherri N, and Diana D talked about:

Why did you decide to seek out/enroll in bariatric coaching?

Catherine: “ I was tired of getting generic advice after my 70 pound weight regain. I was only able to lose 10 pounds of it on my own and that was it, and I began to fear “ If I can’t do something now, I give up and I’ll be destined to be fat forever.” And then I ran across you guys on facebook, and it was like a God thing. It was perfect timing!”

Sherri: I had gained back a good amount of weight and was miserable in my own body.  For me, it was a no brainer when I ran across Dr Marema & Whitney, because not only were they bariatric professionals, but they went through the program themselves. That sold me.

Diana: What I was doing wasn’t working and I didn’t understand why. When I was up to a 40 pound weight gain, I knew I had to do anything to stop this. When I ran across you all and had a conversation with Whitney and she promised me education, I felt like EVEN if I didn’t lose any weight, I needed to LEARN all the nuances of bariatric surgery and my body.

What made it work for you?

Catherine: I dove 100% in! I listened to all of the modules, did all the homework, and changed my routines. I DID a lot of work, but I also received a ton of accountability from Dr Marema, Whitney & the group. Where else are you going to get a bariatric surgeon and Nurse practitioner for an hour every week to give you the nitty gritty and where it’s just all ok?

Diana: If you’re going to invest in it, you have to commit to doing all of the modules and show up to coaching every week, even when you don’t feel like it. Because every coaching group you will leave with some new suggestion or piece of inspiration.  WHat made it work for me to lose weight was that I was able to discover my own body’s uniqueness and work with it instead of against it.

Every BODY is different and learning how to test foods for your body and only eat what works for your body is so much value.

Sherri: By testing using a breath meter or urine strips, you are able to identify what foods your body can handle to lose weight, or which ones you need to avoid. Had I never learned this method, I’d still be guessing what to eat or not to eat. AND, we got to learn from each other each week (in coaching).

How much work was involved?

Catherine: It was a big undertaking, but I stayed motivated because the weight was just falling off of me in the first 6-8 weeks.

Diana:  You have to be willing to show up every week, and that’s not easy. Sometimes you might fall off or fall behind, but coming to get back on course is important.

What did you come away from TBSM with?

Catherine: Freedom, confidence, and a lot of knowledge. (And new friends)

Diana: Learning how to bounce back when I stumble, understanding my body, and becoming more metabolically flexible. This program has been a lifesaver for me.

Sherri: This program saved my life. Now I have absolute freedom with the tools in my toolbox so when I slip up, I know how to get back up. And I left with a forever family and network to lean on.
