Is the same when we are in weight loss mode

"A Bite Or A Bowl Full..."

“Not only are bloggers suckers for the remarkable, so are the people who read blogs .” - Seth Godin

Please borrow this mantra next time your alter ego, or an enabling friend, is whispering those devilish words: "A bite or 2 won't hurt." The truth is, if it's not a low carb food, it WILL hurt your efforts. Let me share Bob's story with you, which perfectly illustrates this point.

Bob had been doing exceptionally well with his low to moderate ketosis eating plan after bariatric surgery. He was losing weight consistently and staying on track. However, he had a faulty belief that indulging in 1-2 tortilla chips wouldn't impact his progress. I challenged him to put his theory to the test.

That morning, Bob was in ketosis when I told him to have however many chips he thought was safe. After enjoying just two chips, he tested his ketone levels and was shocked to discover that he had been knocked out of ketosis. All his hard work and progress were negated for just two stupid chips. It took him almost 24 hours to get back into his optimal ketosis state.

Now, imagine if Bob made similar small variations to his diet every day. This is precisely what most people struggling with weight loss do. They unknowingly sabotage their efforts by believing they're trying their hardest while indulging in a few bites here and there. They create an identity of "I can't lose weight no matter what I do" all because of those everyday temptations.

So, let me reiterate: A BITE OR A BOWL FULL is the same when trying to lose weight. I know this statement may face resistance because it's rooted in the fear of giving up beloved foods and feeling deprived. However, if weight loss is truly important to you, you'll need to forgo ALL foods that hinder fat loss.

Do you have to eliminate these foods forever? No, only when you're actively working towards losing fat. So, when you feel like taking a break from weight loss-promoting eating habits, ask yourself, "Is the taste or experience of this worth coming out of weight loss mode?" If the answer is yes, then allow yourself to enjoy it. But always give yourself permission to get back on track with your weight loss journey at the next meal. Ask yourself, "Is it worth it?"
